Osprey: Helicopter or Airplane?

A brief discussion of the CV-22 Osprey stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base.  The CV-22 Osprey is a tiltrotor aircraft that combines the vertical takeoff, hover, and vertical landing qualities of a helicopter with the long-range, fuel efficiency and speed characteristics of a turboprop aircraft.  Its mission is to conduct long-range infiltration, exfiltration and resupply missions for special operations forces.

70 hours aloft!  It’s a gas!

Gas ballooning is a type of aviation that allows pilots to stay aloft for many hours.  Hear about a Gordon Bennett gas race flight from Belgium to Finland over 5 countries, 3 bodies of water and lots of controversy regarding communications with flight controllers by all pilots involved in this race.

By Barbara Fricke, gas and hot air balloon and SEL pilot
